Brahms’ Winery is situated north-west of Paarl below Paarl Mountain. Here the co-owner and winemaker seeks to practice a vintner’s fine craftsmanship that is based on the cultivated harmony between man and nature. The winemaker, an erstwhile barrister, is also a qualified oenologist. To make good wine was her life-long passion and dream, so eventually she threw caution to the wind and changed her advocate’s robe and designer-shoes for an oenologist’s overalls and gumboots to produce award-winning wines. In this boutique wine cellar, personal attention is given to each bottle.
Johannes Brahms ( 7 May 1833 – 3 April 1897 ) was a German composer and pianist. Born in Hamburg into a Lutheran family, Brahms spent much of his professional life in Vienna, Austria. In his lifetime, Brahms’s popularity and influence were considerable. He is considered one of the greatest composers in history, and is sometimes grouped with Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven as one of the “Three Bs”. A virtuoso pianist, Brahms composed for piano, organ, chamber ensembles, symphony orchestra, and for voice and chorus. Brahms is often considered both a traditionalist and an innovator. Within his meticulous structures is embedded, however, a highly romantic nature.
